Why Photoshoots Matter (Even If You’re Not Usually Into Them)
Most people don’t think they’re “photo people.”
They say things like:
“We’re not really the posing type.”
“I always look awkward in photos.”
“We’ll do it one day, when life slows down.”
Here’s the truth: that “one day” often doesn’t come. Life keeps moving. Kids grow up. Relationships evolve. You change. And all those little in-between moments you live through? Expecting your first baby, expecting your second, engagement, family gatherings, your love for each other, kids finally leaving family nest etc. All of these and many more are important milestones.
Photographs are your memories
But here’s the thing:
I’ve never met anyone who regretted taking photos. Only people who regret not taking them.
This is my family photoshoot I organised when I went back for a visit in 2023. Since I live so far away, our special moments together are so limited that I needed something lasting from this trip.
A photoshoot isn’t just about the photos, it’s about encapsulating the moment, creating a space to slow down, to be present with your partner, your family, or just yourself. It’s about seeing your connection, your energy, your story, the one you’re living right now, not some trendy version for social media. Sure, you are welcome to send me your Pinterest mood board if you wish, but your own session will still lead its natural course and I will capture you and not those people on Pinterest.
You don’t need a perfect outfit, the ideal weight, or the “right” season. You just need a reason to remember who you are at this stage of life.
And that reason can be as simple as:
wanting to capture the chaos and beauty of parenthood
celebrating the romance in your relationship
documenting a new chapter you are stepping into
or just finally getting those family pictures you never had
My approach is relaxed and documentary. I get it… having a camera pointed at you by a stranger can feel a bit awkward at first. You might think you need to perform or be someone you’re not. But don’t worry. Even if those thoughts pop up in the beginning, I promise they won’t last long. I’ll guide you gently, keep things light, and before you know it, the time will fly by.
Funny enough, it’s usually the men who walk away the most surprised as they often turn up being hesitant, unsure of what to expect. But by the end, they’re the ones saying how easy and natural it felt. And that’s a valid concern to have- not knowing what it will be like. Just know this: I’m really good at what I do. I care deeply about people, and I know how to connect. You’re in good hands.
So if you’ve been waiting for a sign to book that beach photoshoot (or park or even city maybe?) this might be it!
